It depends of the language I suppose. Ruby was all about being new, cool and fun. Call that hipsterism if you want. But now that people moved on, it's fair to ask ourselves "Who is going to use Ruby for their next project?". Big company? No. Hipsters? No. You? Maybe : )
I work at a big company and we use ruby all the time. It's a powerful scripting language that we can rapidly develop in for the 1000s (literally) of small programs that need to work with our legacy unix systems.
